New Community Members of the Team

A big welcome to the newest members of the Hear Here Alabama team. We’re beginning to hire new members, both community health workers and audiologists. Recently, we made a trip to Livingston, AL to get some photos of Ms. Johnnie Sanders, our Community Health Coordinator, and two Community Health Advisors, Ms. Debra Clark and Ms. Loretta Henderson. Really excited to have them part of the project and really looking forward to have them work with us.   Ms. Johnnie Sanders, […]

We’re still here and doing fine – pretty well, actually…

It’s been almost a year since our last post. As you are all aware, COVID-19 has had a significant impact on all of our lives, affecting our in-person interactions. Dottie hasn’t been on the road seeing people but she has been taking spins each week just to keep her engine running smoothly. We typically take a run down to Fosters to keep her purring – maybe you’ve even seen her travelling down McFarland and out to I-65, heading west? At […]

American Auditory Society Meeting – We’re There!

Since the summer, we’ve been doing a number of needs assessment discussions with both adults who have hearing loss and community stakeholders in West Central and South Alabama. We’ve put all of our data together and created this poster for the American Auditory Society Meeting in Scottsdale, AZ.  This meeting happens every year at this time and it’s always a great venue to showcase work that we and other researchers have been doing within the past year or so. American […]

We’ve Been Busy!

Over the past couple of months we’ve enrolled more research study participants who have helped us understand the association between hearing loss and social interaction in communities without access to hearing health care.  A few weeks ago we had a great trip to Livingston and saw lots of people there.  We were so busy that we didn’t even have a chance to get a photo until our drive on the way back to Tuscaloosa – see below.  Note that we […]

Dallas County Public Health Department

Although we really weren’t that busy today in Selma, we accomplished a lot!  Our new students, Millie Threadgill (center) and Grace Anne Lake (left) learned all about consenting study participants and how to administer the tests and questionnaires.  All in all another great day on the truck!

Saying Goodbye to a Few Students

At the end of each year we always have to bid farewell to some of our wonderful students.  It is through the dedication of these students that our project is successful.  This year we are saying goodbye to Reagan Sandoz, Jenna Dworak, Kristyn Conrad, Asia Crenshaw, Marissa Williamson, and Leah LeCroy.  We will miss them but wish them all the best in their adventures ahead!  Before they left Tuscaloosa, we were able to get a picture of Asia, (left), Josie […]

Hanging out with the Pine Hill Mayor

Dusty McDanal, the Mayor of Pine Hill, came by for a hearing assessment today.  Always great to see him in the lovely town of Pine Hill. He very generously lets us park in the Pine Hill Town Hall parking lot while we are there.  He’s shown here with one of our fabulous students, Reagan Sandoz.  Always a treat to have her on the bus.
