American Auditory Society Meeting – We’re There!
Since the summer, we’ve been doing a number of needs assessment discussions with both adults who have hearing loss and community stakeholders in West Central and South Alabama. Alabama Life Research Institute Faculty Fellows
Eight faculty members from the University of Alabama were named a fellows of the Alabama Life Research Institute and two professors from the Department of Communicative Disorders were honored with this distinction, Dr. Angie Barber and Dr. Marcia Hay-McCutcheon, for their work in rural Alabama. Dr. Barber does research with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Dr. Hay-McCutcheon has done work improving access and affordability of hearing healthcare. We’ve Been Busy!
Over the past couple of months we’ve enrolled more research study participants who have helped us understand the association between hearing loss and social interaction in communities without access to hearing health care. Although we really weren’t that busy today in Selma, we accomplished a lot! Our new students, Millie Threadgill (center) and Grace Anne Lake (left) learned all about consenting study participants and how to administer the tests and questionnaires. All in all another great day on the truck!
Saying Goodbye to a Few Students
At the end of each year we always have to bid farewell to some of our wonderful students. It is through the dedication of these students that our project is successful. Dusty McDanal, the Mayor of Pine Hill, came by for a hearing assessment today. Always great to see him in the lovely town of Pine Hill.
